What should you take into account when selecting an oil seal? Different types of oil seals and various types of materials are available, each designed for specific uses. It is also important to select the right size of oil seal for the best results. For this reason, selecting the right oil seal requires adequate understanding of the application in which it will be used.

JTEKT provides special seals for use in a wide variety of machines and applications.
Table 5 lists the major special seals, their shapes, and their features.

What are Oil Seals and how do they work?

NBR rubber is above all resistant to oils, especially hydraulic oils, lubricants, petrol and other aliphatic hydrocarbons, diluted acids and lyes. Good physical values such as high friction resistance and ruggedness and good temperature resistance (-25 °C up to +120 °C, in part to -40 °C) give this natural rubber a wide range of uses.

The advantages are low friction and minimum power consumption, the possible use even in case of insufficient lubrication, operating range of -130º c to +200º c and much more: high chemical resistance and a low breakaway torque after standstill. Further, the PTFE, when heated, can” remember” its original form and return to it (phenomenon known as” plastic memory effect”).Therefore, this kind of seal do not need the old school metallic spring.
